Click OK. Once you have enabled the sharing of a printer, you can add that printer to other PCs on the network so you can print from it. Click the Add a printer button on the toolbar. Select the Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer button. It will begin searching for any shared printers on the network. Select the printer and click Next. Enter your desired name for the new printer. Click Next. A window should appear indicating the printer was successfully added.

To ensure its setup correctly click Print a test page. Click Finish. You can check this by opening the Network and Sharing Center and scrolling to the appropriate entry on the status light area.

In Windows Vista you can enable password protection for your shared folders. The shared resources will only be available to other user accounts on the same PC; and of course access is only given by entering the password. Right-click on the network status icon in the system tray and select Network and Sharing Center.

What is foo. We seem to be having this same problem. Our Windows XP workstations occasionally times a day lose their drive mappings to a Server. When attempting to reconnect from XP the connection cannot be made. However, new terminal services connections are possible form XP machines, and Vista and other servers can connect to share on the Server.

Can you access the server share on Windows Server file server via UNC name when this issue happens? If not, what is the exact error? Also, you may follow the steps to add the registry key on these Windows Vista boxes and then check if the issue will re-occur.

Join Date Jan Posts Most probable cause of such network related problems use to be Norton or any Symantec product, If you have any of Symantec software installed on your computer, just uninstall it because it is well known to create such network related problems in windows, especially in Vista. Once removed, see if your Sharing Tab is back.
