It has nothing to do with the number of LNBs. Every tuner coming from the SK needs a B-band converter or equivalent. This is because you need one for each tuner. Now there are situations where you don't need the B-band converters. There are some units as has been pointed out that have it built in.

There are some dishes, and possibly new DirectTV dishes that have a multiswitch built in.
